Project Notes – University of Tampa
The University of Tampa’s $38 million Howard and Patricia Jenkins Hall was named after the philanthropic couple who made a $10 Million Donation to the university. At 11 stories high it is the largest dormitory on campus. SurePods manufactured 250 bathrooms for the student housing project.
The 193,000-square-foot hall houses 528 UT students. This new construction dormitory project represents the 25th new or substantially redesigned facility on UT’s campus in the past 15-years and the seventh new residence hall in the same period. The campus’ physical growth comes as a result of significant enrollment expansion that has quadrupled over the last 17 years to 6,738 total students in 2011-12. The University has invested more than $280 million in new construction since 1997.
The residence hall, which received LEED® Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council last spring, was named the outstanding project of the year in the category of LEED for New Construction, Higher Education. This recognition was made by the Florida Gulf Coast Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council at it’s 2014 LEEDership Awards ceremony.
