Horse racing fans attending the Kentucky Derby in early May will have a new luxury hotel option in downtown Louisville. Opening on Tuesday, March 6, the Omni Louisville Hotel features 612 elegantly appointed guest rooms and suites, along with 70,000 square feet of event space.
With the swiftness of a thoroughbred coming down the stretch at Churchill Downs, the 30-story hotel opens a month earlier than originally planned. As developers are on target to open 10 new hotels in downtown Louisville between summer 2017 and early 2019, reports the Louisville Carrier Journal, the Omni project team gained a schedule advantage in a tight labor market by using modular construction.
Consolidating more than 10 building trades into one product, the hotel’s contractors installed pre-fabricated SurePods modular bathrooms. The bathroom pods were built in an Orlando, Florida, factory and trucked to downtown Louisville for quick installation in the Omni.
