Last week, SurePods celebrated Women in Construction Week (March 6-12) with a luncheon, job site tours, matching shirts, and more! In Orlando, SurePods currently has 44 women out of 141 total employees. We have female employees in all different departments, from administrative positions to quality control positions, welders, and more. Our diverse team dynamics result in increased productivity and a unique work environment. Everyone’s talent and knowledge are implemented and communicated to achieve individual and team goals.
In 1998, the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) started Women in Construction (WIC) Week. The purpose of the week is to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of women in the industry. In fact, Women in Construction Week is in March, the same as Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day. For 24 years, we have celebrated Women in Construction Week in the United States, and the NAWIC has recently connected with global partners to celebrate the week internationally.
Did you know only about 11% of the entire construction industry workforce is women? Over the past five years, female workers have increased, but the gender gap is still significant. Recently, we have seen a slow increase of female leaders in the construction industry emerging in executive and CEO level positions. Even with these notable milestones, women face many obstacles in the construction industry, from the pay gap to job advancement and other discriminations.
SurePods is proud to celebrate Women in Construction Week! Please refer to the sources below for more information on Women in Construction.
