AdventHealth Minneola Hospital

Minneola, FL

The AdventHealth Minneola project is a 4-story, 80-bed hospital with 40 critical care patient rooms and 40 general medical or surgical rooms.

The AdventHealth Minneola project is a 4-story, 80-bed hospital with 40 critical care patient rooms and 40 general medical or surgical rooms. This 204,000 SF facility will service the booming, up-and-coming Minneola, FL area with critically needed inpatient care. SurePods provided 80 bathroom pods, with 2 pod types for this facility, a typical patient restroom and an ADA restroom layout.

Beyond SurePods’ scope, the AdventHealth Minneola team also focused on additional prefabrication elements such as headwalls, skin system, and MEP corridor racks to further compress the project’s on-site schedule.

Standardization Approach

The AdventHealth Minneola project served as the baseline for AdventHealth’s standardization journey with their patient rooms and bathrooms. SurePods, along with ESa, provided various options and designs for AdventHealth to review and accept as the standard for Minneola and future hospitals across the United States. Adopting a standardization approach will provide AdventHealth with significant cost savings by eliminating the need to redesign bathrooms for each future project that utilizes prefabrication. SurePods has experience in standardization and provides additional value by offering feasibility studies during the design-assist phase of preconstruction.

Design Validation through Full-Scale Mockups

As part of the AdventHealth Minneola project, SurePods provided two full-scale mockup pods, one for each pod type, locally in Orlando. This gave the project team a valuable opportunity to physically walk through the units and evaluate the finishes firsthand. This hands-on review process allowed stakeholders to experience the space as end users would and provide direct feedback before full-scale production began.

The mockup review led to several key design enhancements based on team feedback:

  • Accent Tile Update: The original tile behind the vanity was replaced with a mosaic tile.
  • Electric Mirror Adjustment: A minor modification was made to the electric mirror. (site installed)
  • Epoxy Cove Detail Improvement: Initially designed to sit flush with the tile wall, the epoxy cove base was redesigned to be recessed beneath the tile. This adjustment provides greater protection for the top of the resinous cove, protecting it from water exposure and erosion. The result is a more durable, long-lasting flooring solution that helps mitigate potential leak points and enhances the overall integrity of the pod.

See the photos below for the differences between the mockup and the changes implemented in the first article pod.

Propper Planning for Project Success

This was the first time the Florida-based Brasfield & Gorrie team worked with prefabricated bathroom pods. Building on our previous experience with Brasfield & Gorrie on our Children’s Hospital of Atlanta project, we leveraged our lessons learned and applied enhanced coordination and modeling strategies to ensure a smooth integration process. Utilizing Building Information Modeling (BIM), we placed our models into Brasfield & Gorrie’s model to ensure there was a clear path of travel for pod delivery & placement. In doing this, it allowed us to run clash detection early in the process, ensuring that when pods did arrive on site, other trades could continue to work on overhead systems (electrical, plumbing, HVAC) as the building was closed in.

Modeling also gave us the opportunity to calculate the exact depth of the floor depressions based on the pod flooring thickness. This allowed for a seamless transition between the bathroom pods and adjacent patient rooms, enhancing both the functionality and safety of end-users.

Smooth Pod Integration

Over a four-day period, our team successfully delivered 80 pods into their designated locations within the building. Prior to the first delivery on Tuesday, we assembled our custom rigging cage on-site and completed rigging inspections and approvals on Monday to ensure that the deliveries went smoothly. We also conducted a thorough review of site conditions to ensure seamless integration of the pods upon arrival.

Early coordination played a vital role in the smooth execution of this phase. We meticulously planned all site deliveries, crane operations, and travel paths well in advance. This was especially critical as some floors had concurrent wall framing and overhead work, requiring precise timing and spatial coordination. Our planning ensured an efficient and unobstructed path for each pod, minimizing maneuvering within the building. Once loaded in, our crew set all pods within 4 weeks, maintaining project momentum and ensuring alignment with the overall construction schedule.

Prefabrication Success Story

The AdventHealth Minneola project stands as a compelling example of how strategic prefabrication can drive efficiency, quality, and schedule certainty in healthcare construction. Through early design decisions, robust coordination, and a collaborative team approach, the project leveraged prefabrication to streamline on-site activities and reduce construction timelines.

SurePods’ involvement extended beyond fabrication, offering design-assist services, full-scale mockups, and extensive coordination that helped shape AdventHealth’s standardization strategy for future facilities. The success of this project not only delivered a high-quality, patient-centered environment for the growing Minneola community but also laid the groundwork for scalable, repeatable solutions across AdventHealth’s national portfolio.

By embracing prefabrication and standardization, AdventHealth is well-positioned to realize long-term cost savings, accelerate delivery schedules, and maintain consistent quality across its healthcare network, making the Minneola hospital a true model for future development.
