Two Marriott Hotels Race toward the Finish Line in the Hearty of Kentucky Horse Country

In the self-proclaimed “Horse Capital of the World,” Marriott International will open dual-branded properties in 2019. This summer, construction is progressing rapidly as two Marriott hotels in the City Center project in downtown Lexington, Kentucky, take delivery of SurePods pre-fabricated bathroom pods. The Marriott-flagged “Lexington Marriott City Center” and “Residence Inn Lexington City Center” will add much-needed hotel capacity to an increasingly popular tourist and business destination in Kentucky’s second largest city.

Developed by The Webb Companies, the Lexington City Center project will feature the two hotels, offices and condominiums and a 700-stall underground parking garage.

As with most hotel projects, timing is of the essences, especially given previous years-long delays in starting the multi-use development. As it has done on many other hotels throughout the U.S., Marriott is using modular construction to speed completion of the properties.

By reducing bathroom rework and compressing the punch list, SurePods modular bathrooms help hotel developers open up to six months earlier. As project coordinator Ralph Coldiron of The Webb Companies said, “You don’t have four or five trades tripping over each other trying to build a bathroom,” but instead the bathroom arrive ready to plug and play.
